Week 7 {Community}
This week Doni asked me to think about my current blog audience, and who I hope to reach from this space.
This is a really tough question for me, because, to be frank, I have no idea who my audience currently is! Mostly this comes from the fact that I shut this place down for 2 months, and started from scratch. I’m not sure who decided to stick with me after disappearing, and I know a lot of new readers have popped up since my return.
Google Analytics tells me how many people are viewing my site each day, which used to be something I paid close attention to. Since revamping, though, I’ve changed a lot around here, and now I’m much less concerned with how large that number is, and more interested in who those people are! I want to know who my readers are so I can connect with them on a more personal level! My favorite part of this whole blogging thing is the community it creates, and the friends I’ve made, and I want more than anything to build on that.
From the comments I receive, I know that most of you are other 20-something women, probably in a similar place in life as I am. This is who I want to reach! I want to connect with people who I could potentially have an off-line friendship with as well, and obviously that’s easiest with people my age, with similar interests and lifestyles.
Now, I don’t want that to be read as I’m only looking to reach 28 year old females who are about to be married, I just mean I want to reach those who can relate to, and potentially gain something from my experiences, and who can share their own ideas with me, in a way that challenges and excites me.
Doniree is a perfect example of the kind of connection I’m talking about here. I met her through blogging and I enjoyed reading about her travel and nomadic life, even though it’s not something I could ever see myself doing. (I’m way too much of a homebody to move across the country multiple times!) Then I met her in person, at BiSC 2010, and I fell in love with her energy, and her kick-ass ability to make me want to better myself, and step out of my comfort zones. She has single-handedly given me the guts to try things that I would otherwise be too afraid of doing.
I need more people like that in my life, and I’d love to find them through this space. Along the same lines, I hope that by sharing my stories, I can maybe help you step out of your own comfort zones!
So, tell me. Who are you, and what has brought you here? Let’s connect and get to know each other better!
