Originally when I layed out my Happiness Project, I was going to make December a month all about Friends, but I’ve decided to switch it up a bit. I have some things coming up in January that will be perfect on the friend front, so I’m going to push it back a month. Coincidentally, my January goals were about health and wellness, which just happens to mold right in with the marathon training schedule that Justin and I started this week, so it’s a perfect swap.
Here are my healthy goals for December:
- Get back into Yoga. I’d like to go at least 3 times this month.
- Half-Marathon Training. Follow the schedule!
- Bed Readiness – Get off the computer earlier, slow down, get relaxed and into bed by 10:30.
- Expand eating horizons - Try one new food every week for the month (Can you believe I NEVER tried a tomato until last summer?)
- Floss everyday. I seriously need to start doing this.
- Wash face every night. Again, why don’t I just do this?
- Drink lemon water everyday. A while back, I read an article in Whole Living, that this is really good for your digestive system. Since I have dealt have stomach problems my whole life, I thought it might be a good thing to try.
- Ab Ripper X twice per week. Get a jump start on my bikini figure for the honeymoon next summer!
We haven’t been serious about exercise since June, and I’m so excited to get back into it. (I also never expected myself to say something like that!) I’ve kept up on eating well for the most part, but before this week, I’ve gone to the gym two times since June. We’ve gone twice this week, and I can already feel a difference in my energy level. I know I sleep better when I’m consistently working my body, and I hope that by the time June 30th comes, I’ll be in the best shape of my life, for the best day of my life!
What goals are you setting for yourself this month? Anyone else training for a half??

I’m still trying to decide about the half marathon. I have a lot of issues with food and body image…I’m starting to REALLY realize. So if I’m going to commit to something like that, I wanna be sure I won’t become obsessed. It’s awesome that you’re gonna do that though. Really it’s all about balance. Maybe you will inspire me to challenge myself!
You should definitely do it! Just keep yourself in check, and remember that it’s sort of a fun thing too, not just a healthy thing!
be careful with the lemon water. it is good for your digestive system, but is very bad on your teeth (since it is so acidic). i had a friend who had to get enamel treatments done because she drank too much of it. if you seriously are going to drink it daily, use a straw so it has less contact with your teeth.
foods to try: asparagus (it is not that scary, especially if you put butter on it), baby spinach (delish on sandwiches & in salads & not as harsh as real spinach)

Thanks for the advice, I never thought about that with the lemon water! I’ll be careful :)
I actually really like asparagus! And I’ve had baby spinach in salad form, which I don’t hate, but I don’t love either.
ohhh & sweet potatoes is another good veggie. I put some olive oil in a pan on the stove top sprinkle with a bit of salt & rosemary, cover & cook on medium until soft then increase heat, remove top & they get a bit crunchy on the outside like a french fry/hash brown. they have the same “feel” of potatoes, but are SO much better for you.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve actually never eaten a sweet potato, so maybe I’ll have to try that this month!
- Let’s go to yoga again sometime! I really enjoyed it last time but haven’t been back since. I still have that punchcard with the cheaper sessions on it, if they haven’t expired yet.
- You’re on your own for that half-marathon BS. I’d love to help but there is no way I’m even remotely close to doing anything like that!
- The computer is the reason I have been up til almost 2am the last two nights. Not good.
- Buy those floss toothpick things. I started using them rather than regular floss and it’s a lot easier, which makes me floss more often!
- I’ve been bad at the face hygiene thing lately too, which is awful since I’m so acne prone. But laziness happens, so I feel ya here!
- I wish I liked lemon in my water. Never been a fan but to each his/her own! :)
- I need to do that too. I bought this EA Active for the Wii in the Spring and really only used it for a few weeks. My plan is to try to do that at least twice a week (not a ridiculous goal) and get a gym membership with J. Let’s motivate each other!

*Yes, let’s! I still have that card too!
*Haha I’m doing okay with it…mostly
*Ditto
*I will definitely try those! Thanks!
*Ugh, it’s so gross, I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to just wash it!
*I never ever drank water, with out without lemon, until I met Justin. Now I love it.
*Ab Ripper X is the devil. We’ve done it once.
I just came across your blog. You have a wonderful style of writing. I’m impressed you have kept up with your happiness project. I’m just starting mine. I am loving the book and have already started implementing items I said I would start in January. Thanks for sharing your jouney. It motivates me.
