Half-Marathon Training

Remember when I said we signed up for a half-marathon? We were so excited to start training and get serious about running. But then life happened, and we stopped going to the gym. Then we never got back into it. And now here we are, 6 months before the race, not able to run a mile.

Our original plan was to complete a 10K training program, then bridge to a half from there. Unfortunately, the program we were using is 13 weeks long, and only got us to running 6.1 miles. That doesn’t leave enough time before the race to bridge to 13.2 miles.

Welcome to my life, Hal Higdon.

Someone mentioned him as soon as we made the announcement, but because I thought we had it all figured out, I never looked into him. Today I decided to check him out, and I’m so glad I did. His programs are more aggressive, but that also means they are shorter. As long as we stick to the plan, we’ll be able to complete both his 5K and half-marathon programs before the race in May.

Here’s our new training schedule. Hopefully we can actually stick to it!

**This schedule leaves us a few extra weeks at the end. Our race isn’t until May 6th, so if we miss a few days around the holidays, or something else comes up, we’ll still be able to complete the whole thing before that!

I know a bunch of other people out there are also training, any tips or suggestions for us?
