#reverb10 – Writing

in #reverb10

If you can’t tell by the fact that it’s almost 10PM, I almost decided not to participate in #reverb10 today. I had a really hard time coming up with a response to the prompt, but here goes nothing.

Today’s prompt

Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? (Author: Leo Babauta)

The fact is, I’m not a writer, and I don’t try to be. I started my blog because I had a lot of shit going on in my life and needed something else to focus on. This has been an awesome outlet for me, but that doesn’t make me a writer.

That being said, I don’t have a clue how to respond to this prompt.

I guess I could write about the things in my life that don’t contribute to me blogging everyday, since, you know, I’ve been known to go a whole month between posts.

The truth is, I don’t think I’m that interesting, and frankly, I don’t really want to waste anyone’s time with my mundane life. Honestly? Most days I come home from work, lay on my bed, catch up on google reader, talk to Justin on the phone for an hour, and then go to bed. What is there to possibly write about in any of that?

Wait. Lightbulb.

Maybe what I need to do to “eliminate that which is not contributing to my writing” is to just get off my ass and do something that’s worth writing about!

Did I just have an epiphany? No, not really, but sorta. I mean, I know I need to get off my ass, but I didn’t realize how much of an impact that is having on this piece of my life. I guess I forget how much I really do love to blog. And of course, how much I love everything that blogging adds to my life, like an entire community of amazing new friends.

So I guess the answer to the prompt is this: I need to eliminate the lazy.

I need to get up and do things that will make me want to write about them. Let’s hope that participating in #reverb10 will kickstart this, and come January, maybe I won’t disappear from the interwebs for weeks at a time! Here’s hoping anyways…

This post is a part of #reverb10. Reverb 10 is an annual event and online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next. The end of the year is an opportunity to reflect on what’s happened, and to send out reverberations for the year ahead.

letting go of laziness is something I plan to spend a lot of time working on in 2011 … may doing so help you find blog fodder as well as unexpected blessings in 2011
